A U.S. land-based operator faced operational inefficiencies caused by a legacy metal ball seat used in a liner hanger running tool.

The Challenge

While effective in creating a pressure barrier for hanger activation, the metal ball seat remained in place post-activation, restricting full-bore access and interfering with subsequent cementing operation. Cement darts could not pass through the restricted ID, leading to delays, extra equipment, and increased risk of cement job failure or remedial work.

The solution

A pressure-activated 2-3/8” Fantom™ SBS kit, rated to 10,000 psi, was installed as a pressure barrier into the existing tool string configuration.

After hanger setting, the SBS was activated resulting in genuine full-bore ID ensuring unrestricted cement dart passage.
