Case Study - Casing Flotation for Cementing & Completion
Oklahoma Land Based Operator Saves $36000/ Well
It’s a well-known challenge to run casing to depth in long lateral sections because of the excessive drag forces. This was nothing new for our long-term customer in Oklahoma.

The problem
It needed to reduce both drag and friction for running in hole 25,000 ft of 5.5”, with a 9,000-ft lateral and bottom hole pressure of 12,000 psi and mud weight of 13.9 ppg. How could it achieve this while still maximizing operational and cost efficiencies?
The solution
Using Fantom™ as a plug rated to 10,000 psi in this casing flotation application ensured target reach for this ultra long lateral onshore operation. This was achieved by isolating and controlling the pressure, which significantly reduced drag and friction forces.
Once the target was reached the Fantom™ plug was opened remotely without intervention, resulting in genuine full-bore ID and a reduction in rig time.
The Result
A dramatic improvement in efficiency meant that the casing was landed in 21 hours, saving 11 hours of rig time and $36,000 in operational cost for each well.
